Serene Branson, an award-winning reporter, had done dozens of live reports in her career, almost certainly dealing with all kinds of unexpected circumstances before. But one broadcast in particular will stand out for the rest of her life.
Serene herself made headlines for a live feed from the Grammy Awards in 2011 — and not for any reason she wanted to. However, determined to push through, she gathered herself together and went on the air. Right from the start, it was clear that something was very wrong.
Normally clear-spoken, Serene couldn’t get her words out. She knew what she wanted to say, but her mouth betrayed her. It’s wasn’t a stroke, as some people thought; rather, it was a much more common concern that can affect up to 75 percent of women. Thankfully, her producer realized that something wasn’t right and pulled her off-camera quickly and called paramedics.
